Infants & Toddlers

Advanced Early Learning educators engage in intentional teaching which recognises that learning occurs in social contexts and that interactions and conversations are vitally important for learning.

Our educators acknowledge that infants and toddlers learn in a variety of ways and vary in their capabilities and pace of learning. We recognise that children’s learning is ongoing and each child will progress towards the outcomes in different but equally meaningful ways. Over time, children engage with increasingly complex ideas and learning experiences, which are transferable to other situations.

We actively promote each child’s learning through worthwhile and challenging experiences and interactions that foster high-level thinking skills. Our educators use strategies such as modelling and demonstrating, open questioning, speculating, explaining, engaging in shared thinking and problem solving to extend children’s thinking and learning. Educators move flexibly in and out of different roles and draw on different strategies as the context changes. They plan opportunities for intentional teaching and knowledge-building, and document and monitor children’s learning as they progress.

We support engagement by allowing time for meaningful interactions, by providing a range of opportunities for individual and shared experiences, and by finding opportunities for children to engage with others. We encourage physical activity and learning through indoor and outdoor play, and offer guided learning activities for children to explore and develop their knowledge and skills.
